A.C. Green Is At A Bar Watching The Lakers Game In An A.C. Green Jersey

Time to hit to take a trip down memory lane for a moment. Wondering what A.C. Green is up to? We believe he's watching the Lakers-Thunder matchup. That makes sense, of course.

But it gets better. A.C. Green appears to be watching the game at ESPN Zone while rocking his own Lakers jersey. We're 99.9 percent sure it's him.

via Instagram

We changed the faces of the other people in the photo so they're not just hanging out on the Internet, but A.C. was left untouched. And you know what? If I was A.C. Green I'd probably just show up at a bar wearing my own jersey for the hell of it. Because why not?

The Cliff Harris Of Soccer Dads

I really don't know what it is about Nissan Altimas, but they seem to implore drivers to floor it. The latest example comes from a soccer dad in California.

The most troubling example of that scenario arose on Saturday in California, where a father was arrested for driving 104 mph to try and get his son and his son's friend to a scheduled soccer game on time. As reported by the Santa Rosa Press Democrat and San Francisco Chronicle, among other sources, 41-year-old Juan Carlos Gallegos was arrested after a Petaluma police officer recorded his Nissan Altima traveling more than 100 mph on the wrong side of the road.

Via Yahoo!

If you'll recall, Cliff Harris was clocked at 118 mph in an Altima for no good reason at all. There's no way anyone can endorse speeding, driving in the wrong lane and endangering the lives of children and other drivers. Was the soccer game really that important?

'The Information Highway!' A Beckett Magazine From 1995 Attempts To Explain The Internet

The Internet is now 400 years old, but in the early days, everything about the Web was new and exciting. Everyone was catching the Internet "virus" (computer term), and not even Beckett Baseball Card Monthly was "immune" ("virus" term (computer term)).

Well, Jamie Mottram managed to unearth an issue of Beckett from 1995. He found a column from Dr. James Beckett himself, explaining his magazine's forthcoming foray into the Internet. I have transcribed the article. It answered many questions I have about the Internet, and I was able to cross those off my list too:

Our hallmark of Beckett Publications' decade-long service to the hobby is our commitment to keeping in touch with you, the collector. We make every conceivable effort to listen and respond positively to your question, complaints, suggestions and opinions. After all, effective communication is a two-way street.

In recent years, the street has evolved into a highway -- the information highway!

<strike>What is the Internet? Can I drive a car on it?</strike>

Communication by computer via this information highway is fast becoming an everyday fact of life.

<strike>Is the Internet the next big thing or just another "dot-com dud"?</strike>

The computer environments of the Internet are being accessed daily by millions of people around the globe.

<strike>Are folks just like you and me accessing the Internet all around the world, from Toledo to Timbuktu?</strike>

Not one to be caught puttering along in low gear, Beckett Publications is excited to announce the debut of B On-Line: The Collectors Connection. The e-mail address is: (http://www.beckett.com).

<strike>What is your e-mail address?</strike>

How did you get such a fancy e-mail address?

Right now, through this information and entertainment site on the World Wide Web, you can search the complete and up-to-date Beckett Convention Calendar, with listings of card shows across the United States and Canada.

<strike>Does Canada have the internet, or just a loud man yelling information through a wrapping paper tube?</strike>

You also can find in-depth descriptions of each of the Beckett magazines available from your local dealer or by subscription. In addition, you can view the current results and cast your vote for hottest player or driver.

Or you can gain access to BeckWorld, Beckett Publications' on-line interactive entertainment complex. It's a virtual world built especially for you.

<strike>Sometimes I feel like roadkill on the "information highway." After a long day of surfing the 'Net (hang ten!), is there a place I can go to virtually kick up my heels and find a dot-com home built just for me?</strike>

You can download some unique video clips,

<strike>Can you view video clips "on-line"?</strike>

What is your opinion on downloading?

take a leisurely tour through our sports art gallery or take a full-speed, high-altitude ride in our virtual stadium. It's interactive entertainment for the whole family.

What is your opinion on families?

In the near future, B On-Line will include even more interactive features. Visit often to take full advantage of the services offered. The possibilities for effective and easy two-way communication with collectors by computers are endless.

<strike>Is it possible to communicate with other people using computers?</strike>

Do you think it would be good to call it a "dot-comversation"?

So, as you're speeding along in the fast lane of the information highway, stop off for a look at B On-Line: The Collectors Connection. You'll find us here, as always, committed to serving your hobby needs.

Dr. James Beckett

Editor/Publisher

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS:

How many baseball cards are there?

How many baseball cards do you think there are?

Is it important to stay "web safe" while on the Internet?

What is your opinion on VIRUSES

M.O.D.E.M.

What is your opinion on HACKERS

Fans Fulfill Dreams By Losing Badly To MLB Hall Of Famers

No matter the sport, pretending to play as or against your favorite players is essentially the most normal thing one can do growing up a sports fan. You shoot over them, strike them out or find them in the corner of the end zone with no time left on the clock. If you're doing it right, you also account for the crowd noise and play-by-play guy who CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT HE JUST SAW.

The truth is, we never actually get to turn this dream into a reality… unless somebody swoops in and decides to create a contest around this very fantasy. That is exactly what the MLB (and Pepsi) decided to do for Tim Wisecup, a lucky contest winner from Columbus, OH, who came up with his dream team of baseball legends that he and around a dozen of his friends got to take on on a warm May night in central Ohio. Among the legends were Johnny Bench, Frank Thomas, Reggie Jackson, Rickey Henderson, Ozzie Smith, Pedro Martinez, Dennis Eckersley, et al.

Anyway, as the game and weekend unfolded, SB Nation's Dan Rubenstein was on hand to take in the sights and sounds of the MLB/Pepsi Field of Dreams game and weekend, and definitely didn't try to pay off an umpire.

Recruiting: Truly A Neverending Story

Recruiting never ends. It is, in fact, what one might call a "neverending" story. And with that important phrase, this important bit of news regarding a promising 2013 prospect.

If you do not get this joke, we feel so sorry for you and your loveless hellscape of a childhood. Call your parents. Tell them they were bad at their jobs.

Military Veterans: What's Your Favorite Sports Memory From Deployment?

Memorial Day is looming, and SB Nation's YouTube channel wants to honor veterans with an original video. And if you served overseas, we want your help: we're seeking video of veterans talking about their favorite sports memories while deployed.

It can be anything: how you learned who won the World Series, watching the Super Bowl at 3 a.m., playing soccer with Iraqi kids -- whatever sports memory that has stuck with you through the years. Tell us how you felt, what the atmosphere was like, why it mattered to you.

No need for fancy production: webcams are fine, and you can upload it to twitvid or YouTube and tweet it at me, or email me the video file. Please include your name, your service, and the years you served.

Thanks, and we look forward to sharing your memories.

San Antonio Has Been Spurred To A Pretty Impressive Winning Streak

The San Antonio Spurs have put together a pretty impressive winning streak in the NBA Playoffs, winning all five games they've played, but the truth is this recurrent winning thing has gone on for quite awhile.

In fact, for those that are into advanced statistics*, the Spurs have now put together a streak of 15 consecutive victories. It's actually been over a month since the Spurs last lost -- and, were it not for the playoff victories, this might not even be the most impressive string of wins that San Antonio put together during this lockout-truncated season.

Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili have been able to stave off defeat since April 11, when the Los Angeles Lakers handed San Antonio a 14-point loss at the AT&T Center. Following that loss, the Spurs rattled off 10 straight wins to end the regular season.

Though these don't exactly add up to a winning "streak," the Spurs finished the regular season winning 24 of their last 27 games and -- if one wants to broaden the perspective -- an NBA best 38 of 45 to end the regular season.

Despite the shortened season, the Spurs were able to win 50 games this year for the 13th consecutive year -- the longest streak in NBA history.

San Antonio also broke one of its own franchise records this year, putting together double-digit winning streaks on three consecutive occasions.

The Spurs were the only team to win both of their back-to-back-to-backs this season.

The NBA Playoffs have included the Spurs 15 consecutive times, the longest current streak in the NBA.

That's a lot of winning!

*Note: Winning is not really an "advanced" statistic and the above streaks were provided via the San Antonio game notes.

Would You Like Your Child To Play Catch With Brett Favre?

Look, you love Brett Favre. It's okay; it's a natural part of being alive. You're still mourning his for-realsies-this-time retirement. You're still wearing his jersey. You're probably a Jacksonville Jaguars fan, but you still had a jersey made that says "FAVRE 4" on the back, because you love him so dang much. (And I mean, what else do you have to feel good about?) But what if I told you there was a way that you -- yes, you -- could interact with the great Brett Favre himself? No, I'm not pulling your chain.

No Guts, No Glory happened to notice that Charity Buzz is auctioning off a chance for your child to play catch with the ol' Gunslinger. The value of this item is valued at $10,000 and bidding is currently all the way up to $4,250.

"But there must be a catch!" I'm sure you're saying. "Certainly my son or daughter can't huck around the pigskin with God's Own Brother-In-Law Brett Favre for the paltry sum of just-under-five-grand!" Indeed there is a catch, dear reader. If you want the chance to have your kid embarrass himself or herself with crummy, weak arms ("Must get it from their mom's side," you'll mutter), you will have to either live in, or be able to travel to, the Sumrall, Miss., area.

But wouldn't that be worth the money and the trip to Mississippi? To be able to watch your kid play catch with Favre for a few seconds before you drift off staring at the QB and start imagining yourself in those Lee commercials with him? Slapping fives, sharing toothy grins, getting down and dirty? Of course it is. So pony up, you jerks. Give your dumb kids something to feel good about and/or hate you for later in life, when you have to go into foreclosure because you burned six large or so on a Favre-related excursion. Totally worth it.

And in case you're wondering, Burnsy at With Leather already took care of the requisite "Favre gets hit in the dong" joke, so head over there for that.
